Supporting Parents & Children
Since 2004 Space has been actively working to support children parents and communities. We have, developed and implemented a wide range of bespoke training and service solutions to support children, families and communities.
In 2017 Space provided 4268 hours of support to families & children and worked with 600 families.
Space Family Support Services
Space Family Support Services are tailored to the needs of each family, and range from practical support, therapeutic support and delivery of evidence-based parenting programmes.
Families face many issues including, poor mental health, material poverty, neglect, disadvantage and disability amongst other reasons. Additionally, since 2009 Space has been active on supporting growing numbers of Newcomer families to the area. Whilst all families face difficulties at time, the impact of poor housing, material poverty, social isolation, trauma and language barriers create additional stressors and anxiety.
Space is the lead organisation for the Newry and Mourne Family Support Hub (FSH) where we work in partnership with statutory and voluntary organisations to identify solutions for families facing challenges.
Referrals to the Family Support Hub include requests for support around physical and mental health problems, family breakdown, parenting difficulties, financial problems and social and rural isolation. In addition to the FSH coordination, we also undertake in-depth home-based assessments to explore needs and maximise access to services benefits and grants.
